Class room style format designed for those interested in learning the nuts and bolts (or grapes and barrels!) about wine. Prices include class instruction, class materials, and of, course, wine!

Fundamentals Class

A beginner/intermediate educational & Tasting class consisting of 4, three-hour classes, taught by an instructor with a Certified Wine Specialist (CSW) certificate and an advanced certification from the Wine & Spirits Education Trust (Co-owner Ron!)

Cost: $125 per person, includes wine, class materials and "Wine for Dummies"
Format: Classroom teaching and tasting of 6 wines per session
Register: Call 849-9787 or email at cafelegrand@verizon.netClass #1: An introduction to the Systematic Approach to Tasting as taught by the Wine & Spirits Education Trust, to include handouts and a full introduction to aromas and flavors. Plus a component tasting to assist in analyzing wine and getting the most from your wine experiences!
Class #2: We discuss grapes in depth - including a look at the vine, varietals and their characteristics and then we tackle the sometimes daunting task of REALLY understanding a wine label- including some legal elements that impact what's on the label and what's in the bottle. All in the spirit of eliminating the mystique and giving you confidence in purchasing and drinking.
Class #3: An in-depth look at the winemaking process and the variable affects on the finished product. By learning the process you will better understand the terminology and what to expect from a bottle made a certain way.
Class #4: A more detailed look at Old World wine regions - to provide you with a basic understanding of the wines from regions abroad. Plus we'll look at some New World regions to give you an idea of what's up & coming.
